The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking five (5) Fish Transport Operator. This position will be located at our Clearwater Fish Hatcher located in Ahsahka, ID. This is a ​non-benefited​ temporary position and is expected to work up to 40 hours per week. Housing is available for the employee only. No pets. The position will be from March 2, 2026 – April 2026.

General Information
Some positions may travel to remote locations for data collection and maintenance activities; require the physical ability to walk and backpack for several hours over rugged terrain and along water ways; stand and work in cold water for up to eight hours per shift; lift and carry up to 60+ pounds with occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances; and work in extreme weather conditions. Frequent (overnight) in-state travel may be required. Incumbents working at fish hatcheries work with toxic chemicals and around heavy dust, high voltage, loud noises, and slippery surfaces.
Qualifications
Applicants must be able to work well in a team environment and independently as needed, take direction and follow protocols effectively. Applicants must be well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, responsible, and safety conscious. Must have a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License with tanker and air brake endorsements. Fisheries and truck driving related experience is preferred. Applicants must complete pre-employment drug screening.
Responsibilities
Routine duties include, but are not limited to: performing daily pre-trip inspections on vehicle, using a water fill station to put water on truck, ensuring that the fish life support system is operating correctly, loading fish onto vehicle in measured amount, monitoring fish health visually and with a dissolved oxygen reader, driving to a specific release location, tempering truck tank with acclimation water, and releasing fish from truck’s tank.
