The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking three (3) Fishery Technicians for statewide research under the Wild Trout Evaluations, Hatchery Trout Evaluations, and Lakes and Reservoirs Research projects. These position will be located at our Nampa Research Office located in Nampa, Idaho. These are 8-month  benefited temporary positions expected to work up to 40-50 hours per week from April/May through December (employment start and end dates are flexible). Housing is limited and not guaranteed but may available for the employee only. No pets.

What We Offer:

General Information
These positions require frequent travel with a research team throughout Idaho for periods of up to five(5) days. These positions involve walking several miles over rugged terrain and along stream banks; standing and working in cold water for up to eight hours per shift; lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 60 pounds and occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances; operating four-wheel drive and off-road vehicles in rugged terrain; hitching and pulling trailers; and working in extreme weather conditions. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required. Frequent overnight in-state travel is required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Some knowledge of life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species
• Experience recording, summarizing, and analyzing scientific data; diagnosing and repairing minor mechanical problems
• Experience operative ATVs, outboard motorboats, trailers, and trucks

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will currently be enrolled in or graduated from a fisheries, biology, or related science program or have the equivalent in training and work experience; have previous experience with data collection and management, sampling and identifying fish; following oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures; the ability to navigate with GPS and camp in backcountry environments; good handwriting skills and attention to detail; the ability to work well independently and within a team environment. Ideal candidate will have experience leading field crews, a commitment to safety practices and professional conduct in the workplace. Additional consideration may be given at the time of the interview to candidates who have this experience. Please be sure to include any experience you have in these areas.
Responsibilities
• Conduct electrofishing surveys in streams, rivers, and lakes (day and nighttime)
• Hike long distances (>9 miles) in rough terrain
• Work and camp in remote locations under adverse weather conditions
• Operate, transport, and trailer outboard/jet motorboats
• Conduct gillnetting and water quality surveys of alpine/lowland lakes
• Conduct habitat and flow surveys on streams
• Stock fish and collect biological samples
• Tag fish (t-bar anchor tags, PIT tags)
• Maintain and repair equipment (sampling equipment, vehicles, etc.)
• Collect, record, and manage data; perform data checks, and enter date into databases
• Prepare fish aging structures for lab analysis
• Purchase field supplies
• Directly oversee 1-3 bio-aides
• Lead a crew of 2-8 staff in the field
