The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Fishery Technician. This position will be located at our Clearwater Regional office in Lewiston, Idaho. This is an 8-month, benefitted temporary position and is expected to work up to 40 hours per week.
Supplemental Information:
Incumbent may be required to travel to remote locations for fish tagging, trapping, or sampling operations. These positions involve working in adverse weather for up to 8 hours per day; lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 60 pounds and occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances; operating four-wheel drive vehicles; and operating watercraft in dynamic river environments. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.

• Some knowledge of life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species.
• Experience: recording, summarizing, and analyzing scientific data; diagnosing and repairing minor mechanical problems.
• Valid driver's license.
In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will have experience operating fish traps, and PIT tagging juvenile salmonids. Preference will also be given to individuals with experience in the use of welders, cutting torches, chainsaws and other power tools and whitewater safety. Please be sure to include within your application any experience you have in these areas.
• Handle, PIT-tag and collect biological information from juvenile salmonids.
• Offseason maintenance and repair of large fish traps.
• Conduct redd surveys for Chinook salmon.
• Conduct snorkel surveys to evaluate parr distribution and densities.
• Maintain field equipment and manage data.
• Employee may be required to live on-site at the Salmon River Trap during the work week in the spring.
• Other duties include operating watercraft, winches, chainsaws, and power tools.
