The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Fishery Technician. This position will be located at our Clearwater Regional office located in Lewiston, ID. This is a 8-month, temporary position and is expected to work up to 40 hours per week.

Supplemental Information: Incumbents may be required to travel to remote locations for fish tagging, trapping, spawning or sampling operations. These positions involve walking several miles over rugged terrain and along stream banks; standing and working in cold water for up to eight hours per shift; lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 60 pounds and occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances; operate four-wheel drive and off-road vehicles in rugged terrain; and working in extreme weather conditions. Incumbents working at fish hatcheries work with toxic chemicals and around heavy dust, high voltage, loud noises, and slippery surfaces. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: (These qualifications are required)

• Some knowledge of life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species.
• Experience: recording, summarizing, and analyzing scientific data; diagnosing and repairing minor mechanical problems.
• Valid driver's license.


In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will have experience with data management and following established sampling and data entry protocols, implanting PIT tags, and experience working with adult and juvenile anadromous salmonids. Successful candidates must be able to work independently and in a team setting and demonstrate a high degree of initiative and problem-solving ability. They also must be willing to interact with the public in a positive and professional manner. Additional consideration may be given at the time of the interview to candidates who have this experience. Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
1) Operating juvenile rotary screw traps and managing trapping efforts
2) Maintaining two adult fish weirs
3) Collecting adult and juvenile fish data
4) Entering, managing, and validating biological data
5) Assisting with hatchery duties including transporting adult Chinook salmon, nutrient enhancement, and grounds care
6) Conducting spawning ground surveys

Important Note: the non-benefitted position requires a mandatory 1-month layoff during the months of July or August.
