About the position

The Southwest Region is seeking one (1) Wildlife Technician (non-benefited) to help manage Cecil D. Andrus Wildlife Management Area (Andrus WMA) during the 2026 season. 

Dates Needed:

Work will begin approximately on March 16, 2026 and end approximately on December 31, 2026 (flexible start and end dates) at a rate of $18.61 per hour. The incumbent will work four (4) months on, one (1) month off, four (4) months on.  This job announcement will remain open until the position has been filled. General Information
The selected applicant will work both independently and as part of a team to conduct wildlife habitat management activities on the Cecil D. Andrus WMA, west of Cambridge, Idaho. Andrus WMA is located on the breaks of Hell’s Canyon and is a working example of compatible wildlife and livestock uses of rangelands. The WMA supports herds of wintering elk and mule deer, year-round upland game birds and a host of other game and non-game wildlife. The WMA is open to public hunting, fishing, trapping, and other outdoor recreational opportunities. Work is generally conducted Monday-Friday, but schedule is variable. Some weekend and/or holiday work will be required.

With or without reasonable accommodation, incumbent must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, hike long distances in extremely rough terrain while carrying a 30-40 lb pack, and lift/carry equipment up to 60 lbs for short distances. Housing will be provided.
Qualifications
Some knowledge of wildlife ecology and habitat requirements; and wildlife habitat evaluation and management practices. Experience recording, summarizing, and analyzing biological data. Must be willing and able to obtain and Idaho State Department of Agriculture apprentice pesticide applicator license. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Responsibilities
Maintain livestock management facilities (fences and corrals) and infrastructure; control noxious weeds through chemical, mechanical and biological applications and map treatments; perform vegetation data collection and monitoring; monitor livestock use, conduct wildlife habitat improvement projects, plantings and seedings; conduct wildlife surveys; maintain roads, buildings, facilities and grounds.

Provide information to Andrus WMA users and the public; work with volunteer groups on various habitat projects; staff office hours during fall hunting seasons to provide motorized access and information to WMA users.
