The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Fisheries Technician. This position will be located at our Cabinet Gorge Fish Hatchery located in Clark Fork, ID. This is a 5-month benefited temporary position and is expected to work up to 40 hours per week. Housing is available for the employee only. No pets.
Cabinet Gorge Fish Hatchery is located 8 miles east of the town of Clark Fork right along the scenic Clark Fork River. Approximately 7 million late spawning Kokanee eggs are collected in the fall to fulfill Kokanee stocking requests throughout the state. The hatchery raises Coho Salmon, Rainbow Trout, and Westslope Cutthroat Trout to fulfill lowland and high mountain lake stocking requests. Cabinet Gorge also rears a Westslope Cutthroat Trout broodstock which hatchery staff spawn in the spring.

Supplemental Information:
Incumbents must, with or without reasonable accommodation, be able to stand and work in adverse weather conditions, sometimes working in cold water for up to eight hours per shift, lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds repeatedly throughout the day and occasionally lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances; operate four-wheel drive and off-road vehicles. Incumbents working at fish hatcheries work with toxic chemicals and around heavy dust, high voltage, loud noises, and slippery surfaces. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required. Applicants must be able to work well in a team environment and independently in a remote setting as needed, take direction, and follow protocols effectively. Applicants must be well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, responsible, and safety conscious. Must be at least 18 years of age, read, write, compute simple math.
• Experience: recording, summarizing, and analyzing scientific data; diagnosing and repairing minor mechanical problems
• Valid driver’s license
• Implements feeding schedules required for specific growth rates
• Cleans tanks and raceways
• Observes fish behavior for signs of stress or disease
• Implements water and feed treatments and prophylactic measures as directed
• Sorts and spawns fish
• Removes and enumerates daily fish mortality
• Crowds, loads, transports, and stocks fish
• Maintains records and contributes to reports documenting hatchery activities, water readings, data entry, fish diseases and treatments, and production studies
• Maintains hatchery facilities using power tools and landscaping equipment
• Provides hatchery tours and interacts professionally with the public
• Crew leader for other seasonal staff
