SPECIAL NOTIFICATION: This position is exempt from classified state service and the rules of the Division of Human Resources and the Idaho Personnel Commission. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Benefited Biological Aide. This position will be located at Hayspur Hatchery in Bellevue Idaho. This is a broodstock facility which has a primary purpose of producing triploid rainbow trout eggs and is the hub for the YY-Brook Trout Program. This temporary position is expected to work up to 40 hours per week. Housing is available for the employee only. No pets.

General Information
Some positions may travel to remote locations for data collection and maintenance activities; require the physical ability to walk and backpack for several hours over rugged terrain and along water ways; stand and work in cold water for up to eight hours per shift; hitch and pull trailers; lift and carry up to 60+ pounds with occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances; and work in extreme weather conditions. Operate motorized equipment including ATVs, tractors, landscaping equipment, and/or UTVs. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required. Frequent (overnight) in-state travel may be required. Incumbents working at fish hatcheries work with toxic chemicals and around heavy dust, high voltage, loud noises, and slippery surfaces.
Qualifications
Applicants must be able to work well in a team environment and independently as needed, take direction and follow protocols effectively, and handle responsibility. Applicants must be well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and safety conscious. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. Fish hatchery or fisheries related experience is strongly preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
Routine duties include but are not limited to: weighing fish feed and feeding fish; cleaning and caring for fish in rearing units; fish health monitoring; spawning fish; measuring water quality and maintaining equipment; data collection; data entry; sampling fish; maintaining grounds and equipment; operating landscaping equipment; pressure washing raceways; cleaning offices and hatchery facilities.
