The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Fishery Technician. This position will be located at our Henrys Lake Hatchery located in Island Park, Idaho. This is a 4-month non-benefited temporary position and is expected to work up to 40+ hours per week. Housing is available for the employee only. No pets. 

Henrys Lake Fish Hatchery sits on the shore of Henrys Lake in eastern Idaho and is located fifteen minutes north of Island Park, ID and about twenty minutes from the west entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Henrys Lake operates as an egg production satellite facility under the supervision of the Mackay Fish Hatchery. Currently, the goal is to trap and spawn Henrys Lake Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout to collect ~ 3 million green eggs to yield ~800,000 hybrid (rainbow x cutthroat) eyed eggs and ~1.2 million Yellowstone Cutthroat eyed eggs.

If spawning operations at Henrys Lake are completed before the end of the temporary appointment, the incumbent will spend the remainder working at the Mackay Fish Hatchery (located in Mackay, Idaho), where housing is also provided for the employee only- no pets.

Start and end dates are somewhat flexible.

General Information
Incumbents may be required to travel to remote locations for fish tagging, trapping, spawning or sampling operations. These positions involve walking over rugged terrain and along stream banks; standing and working in cold water for up to eight hours per shift; lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 60 pounds and occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances; operate four-wheel drive and off-road vehicles in rugged terrain; and working in extreme weather conditions. Incumbents working at fish hatcheries work with toxic chemicals and around heavy dust, high voltage, loud noises, and slippery surfaces. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: (These qualifications are required)
• Some knowledge of life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species.
• Experience: recording, summarizing, and analyzing scientific data; diagnosing and repairing minor mechanical problems.
• Valid driver's license.

Minimum Qualifications Specialty: (These qualifications are required.)
• Some knowledge of aquaculture and the growing and maintaining of fish.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will have experience operating tractors and snow removal equipment; be able to work well in a team environment and independently as needed, take direction and follow protocols effectively; be well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, responsible, and safety conscious. Additional consideration may be given at the time of the interview to candidates who have this experience. Please be sure to include any experience you have in these areas.
Responsibilities
• Maintains facility, snow removal
• spawns fish; assists in monitoring development of eggs and fry;
• observes fish behavior for signs of stress or disease;
• grades and sorts fish; removes and enumerates daily fish mortality;
• implements feeding schedules required for specific growth rates; cleans tanks and raceways; tracks hatchery inventory of various species and sizes of fish; loads, transports, and stocks fish; and maintains records
