About the position
Rapid River Fish Hatchery is seeking to hire (1) Fisheries Biological Aide for a period not to exceed five months.
Biological aides complete a variety of routine duties to assist professional staff with data collection, survey, research, habitat preservation or enhancement, educational outreach, or fish propagation; perform related work.
General Information
Rapid River Fish Hatchery is located in central Idaho near the town of Riggins, Idaho along the Wild and Scenic designated section of Rapid River. The hatchery produces 3.0 million spring chinook salmon annually for release into Rapid River, a tributary of the Little Salmon River. The hatchery is funded by the Idaho Power Company through a mitigation responsibility resulting from the construction of the Hells Canyon complex of hydro facilities.
Qualifications
Course work in a Natural Resource/Biological Science is strongly preferred but not mandatory. Previous fish hatchery experience a plus but not required. Candidates with course work will be given preference. Must be at least18 years of age.
Responsibilities
Perform routine fish rearing duties at anadromous species fish hatchery. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: weighing fish feed and feeding fish; cleaning raceways; maintaining grounds and equipment; crowding and netting fish; loading and unloading trucks; assisting in the collection and spawning of adult Chinook Salmon. Collecting and recording data, assisting with fish production metrics and techniques, monitoring fish behavior and development. Work may involve prolonged standing in all weather conditions, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. and occasional field travel, weekend duty or overnight stays. Work typically consists of a 40 hour work week, with some night, weekend, or holiday work required.
