The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Sr. Wildlife Technician to monitor bighorn sheep and assist with bighorn sheep captures in Hells Canyon, the Salmon River, and other areas as needed. This position will be located at the Clearwater Regional Office in Lewiston. The person in this position will be working in the field (75%) and in the office (25%). Field work schedule is generally Monday through Thursday, with occasional Friday, weekend, and holiday work and some overnight travel is required. Field duties include collecting observational data on bighorn sheep, hiking into mortalities, conducting necropsies and collecting samples. Office work involves data entry and management, planning and preparation for captures, and other duties. This is an 8-month benefited position and may include some evenings, holidays and weekends. Duration is approximately May – January. Starting date is flexible.

• BS degree or equivalent in Wildlife, Zoology, or other related area of study.
• At least one season of relevant field experience.
• Experience recording, summarizing, and analyzing wildlife biological data.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to hike in rugged terrain in remote locations, work in extreme weather conditions (heat and cold), and carefully collect observational data following set protocols using binoculars and spotting scope.
• Applicants should be self-motivated, safety conscious, and able to work independently after initial training.
The ideal candidate will have experience with radio-telemetry, conducting field investigations and necropsies. Experience with ArcGIS software, R, and/or Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Access strongly preferred. Experience and/or training in animal capture and handling, aerial telemetry and surveys is helpful but not required.
