The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Biological Aide. This position will be located at the MK Nature Center 600 S Walnut Street. This is a year-round  non-benefited temporary position and is expected to work up to 19.5 hours per week.

Supplemental Information: 

This position will require the physical ability to stand and walk for up to six hours per shift, and work in extreme heat or cold; lift and carry up to 60+ pounds for short distances. Will be required to climb ladders daily. Operate motorized equipment including tractors, and landscaping equipment. Will be required to work weekdays, every other weekend, and some holidays. Incumbents working on habitat projects may be working with herbicides and pesticides.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance of the nature center’s gardens and wildlife habitat.
  • Perform animal husbandry with the nature center’s non-releasable educational animals.
  • Provide Customer service to visitors by answering questions and providing information about the nature center, its habitat, wildlife and education programs.
  • Operate point of sale retail system, restock and maintain gift shop.
  • Perform routine maintenance of building and displays in visitor’s center.
  • Assist with event logistics; and/or participate in educational events.

Minimum Qualifications Specialty: (These qualifications are required.)

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Experience following oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures
  • Some knowledge of biology, zoology, botany, conservation biology or closely related field
  • Experience interacting with the public in a professional setting
  • Some knowledge of animal husbandry

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will have experience with grounds maintenance, maintaining gardens and identifying invasive plants species, as well as knowledge of Idaho’s native plants and wildlife. Have experience working with power tools, sawzalls, pruning tools, and tractors. And have experience with cash handling and sales reconciliation procedures.  Additional consideration may be given at the time of the interview to candidates who have this experience.
