About the position

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking two Fisheries BioAides. These positions will be located at our Southwest Regional Office located in Nampa, ID. This is an 3-month non-benefitted temporary position and is expected to work approximately 40 hours per week.

General Information
Primary duties will sampling Bull Trout abundance, distribution and threats. Sampling methods include backpack electrofishing, but may include other methods as needed. BioAides will be responsible for data collection and management. Other duties may include maintaining a variety of equipment and other duties as required. Fieldwork weeks consist of 40-50 hours, typically Monday through Friday. However, night and weekend work will be required at times. This position will require extended periods of overnight camping in remote settings.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications require the incumbent has some knowledge of identification, life history, anatomy, and ecology of fish species, and a valid driver's license.

Incumbents may be required to travel to remote locations for fish tagging, trapping, spawning or sampling operations. These positions involve walking several miles over rugged terrain and along stream banks; standing and working in cold water for up to eight hours per shift; lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 60 pounds and occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances; operate four-wheel drive and off-road vehicles in rugged terrain; working underwater using snorkel equipment; and working in extreme weather conditions. Incumbents working at fish hatcheries work with toxic chemicals and around heavy dust, high voltage, loud noises, and slippery surfaces. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
