About the position

The Southwest Region is seeking one (1) Wildlife Technician (non-benefited) to help manage CJ Strike Wildlife Management Area (C.J. Strike WMA) during the 2025 season. The C.J. Strike WMA is an 11,008-acre area of mixed ownership bordering the 7,500 surface acres of C.J. Strike Reservoir. The WMA is managed with priority on hunting, fishing, and trapping, as well as wildlife production and wildlife viewing.

Dates Needed:

Work will begin on March 3, 2025 and end December 31, 2025 (flexible start and end dates) at a rate of $17.32 per hour. The incumbent will work four (4) months on, two (2) months off, four (4) months on.

Qualifications
With or without reasonable accommodations, be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. Be able to work outdoors in highly variable weather conditions. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to competently and safely operate a chainsaw, power trimmer, 4x4 truck, ATV, and tractor with implements (disk, mower, etc.). Incumbent must have a working knowledge of wildlife ecology and basic habitat requirements. Experience with herbicide applications, farm equipment, and ditch irrigation is preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively with the public. The abilities to work independently with minimal supervision and make efficient use of field time are essential requirements for this position.
Responsibilities
The selected Wildlife Technician (Habitat) will work to perform physical and technical duties needed for wildlife habitat management on CJ Strike Wildlife Management Area. Primary tasks include habitat improvement projects, water management, fence maintenance, conducting wildlife and vegetation surveys, noxious weed spraying, facilities management, conducting public use surveys, and coordinating volunteer projects. Opportunities exist to participate in several other aspects of wildlife management across the Region. The selected individual will operate and maintain various equipment including, but not limited to: 4x4 truck, ATV, tractor w/ implements, chainsaw, power tools, herbicide sprayers and irrigation systems. Assist manager with other duties as assigned.
