About the position

The Fisheries Research office in Nampa, Idaho is seeking 3 temporary Fisheries Biological Aides ($15.00/hour DOE; non-benefited) to work as members of a fisheries research team assisting with work on three projects (Wild Trout Evaluations, Hatchery Trout Evaluations, and Lakes and Reservoirs Research). These positions will consist of fieldwork throughout the state of Idaho from May – August (start and end dates are flexible).

General Information
This position requires frequent travel with a research team throughout Idaho for periods of up to six (6) days working a minimum of 40 hours per week. Work schedules may be variable including early/late hours. With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbents must be able to work and camp in remote locations under adverse weather conditions, hike long distances (>9 miles) in rough terrain, operate ATVs (training provided) and four (4) wheel drive vehicles in steep/rough terrain, handle live and dead fish; wade in swift flowing waters; and lift/carry up to 50 lbs. Camping equipment, uniforms, all food items while in the field, and transportation to and from field sites are provided.
Qualifications
At a minimum applicants should have some knowledge of life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species. The incumbent must have a valid driver’s license. Enrollment in a Fisheries or related science program is a plus. The ability to collect and manage data, navigate with GPS in backcountry environments, work well independently and with a team, good handwriting, attention to detail, and professional conduct are all competitive qualities.
Responsibilities
Duties may include electrofishing streams, rivers, and lakes (day and nighttime); backpacking; operating, transporting, and trailering outboard/jet motorboats; gillnetting alpine/lowland lakes; stocking fish and collecting biological samples; tagging fish (t-bar anchor tags, PIT tags); maintaining and repairing equipment (sampling equipment, vehicles, etc.); and collecting, recording, and managing data.
