About the position

The Clearwater Region is seeking three temporary Fisheries Technicians (non-benefited) to operate mainstem fish traps as part of the Comparative Survival Study in the Snake and Salmon River Basins.

General Information
The employee will be a member of a crew conducting trapping operations in the Snake and Salmon River Basins to evaluate juvenile salmon and steelhead survival.

Applicants must be flexible on their schedule depending on project needs, stream conditions, weather, and other factors. Some incumbents will be stationed remotely in White Bird, Idaho during their shifts. All food, equipment, and camping gear (except for sleeping bag) are supplied by IDFG during remote work shifts. Housing is not provided during days off.

Incumbents must be able to work in adverse weather for up to 8 hours per day, and lift/carry up to 50-60 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
Qualifications
It is preferred that applicants have a B.S. degree in fisheries or related field, or the equivalent from job experience and training. Individuals with experience operating traps, PIT tagging, collecting and organizing/managing biological data will be given preference. Preference will also be given to individuals with experience in the use of chainsaws and other power tools and whitewater safety. Demonstration of good computer and data management skills are required. Applicants must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.
Responsibilities
Operate and maintain large fish traps under variable conditions. The technicians are expected to handle, PIT-tag and collect biological information from juvenile salmonids, along with maintaining field equipment and managing data. Other duties include operating winches, chainsaws, and power tools.
