About the position

We are seeking multiple technicians to monitor the Clearwater River steelhead fishery and assist in the South Fork Clearwater broodstock collection. These are full time (40+ hours/week) non-benefited positions. Monitoring is typically four days per week, two randomly chosen weekdays and both weekend days during fishery monitoring. During broodstock collections, work is typically four days in a row. Free housing (camp trailers) available on a limited basis, occasional overnight stays (provided hotel or camp trailer) may be required.

General Information
With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbents may travel to remote locations for
data collection and field activities; must be able to walk over rugged terrain along stream banks;
lift and carry equipment weighing up to 60 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 100
pounds for short distances; operate four-wheel drive and off-road vehicles in rugged terrain; and
work in inclement weather conditions.
Qualifications
Applicants must be able to work well in a team environment and independently as needed, take direction and follow protocols effectively. Applicants must be well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, responsible, and safety conscious. Must have a valid driver’s license. Applicant should have some experience recording, summarizing, and analyzing data. Fisheries related experience and education is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
Typical duties during fishery monitoring include interviewing anglers to collect effort and catch
data using electronic data entry, collect genetic samples, scan harvested fish for tags, inventory
biological samples and upload electronic data. Typical duties during the broodstock program
may include recruiting anglers to participate in collection efforts, distributing live holding tubes
for steelhead, collecting data from and moving live fish to a hatchery vehicle, and transporting
live fish to a holding pond. Early morning, evening, and weekend work may be required.
