Habitat restoration efforts are underway to boost the productivity of threatened Pacific salmon and steelhead populations in the Pacific Northwest. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game and other management agencies are conducting Intensively Monitored Watershed (IMW) projects to evaluate whether restoration efforts are working to increase salmon and steelhead numbers. Intensively Monitored Watershed projects are long-term, intensive research and monitoring projects designed to document how fish populations respond to habitat restoration. These projects are strategically located across the Pacific Northwest to maximize what we can learn. There are two IMW projects located in Idaho, one in the Potlatch River basin and the other in the Lemhi River basin. Lessons learned from these projects will be used to better inform future habitat restoration efforts elsewhere in Idaho.
