Horsethief Reservoir is now ice-free and open for day use activities, including fishing for rainbow trout, brown trout and kokanee salmon. However, campgrounds at Horsethief remain closed until further notice, in keeping with Idaho’s COVID-19 guidelines.
May 15th is the normal opening day for Horsethief’s campgrounds, but this is an unusual year to say the least, and it is unlikely that campgrounds will open on that date.
The campgrounds at Horsethief Reservoir are managed under a collaborative partnership between the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and the Treasure Valley YMCA. For public safety, Governor Little’s Idaho Rebounds plan is being closely followed, and will dictate when Horsethief’s campgrounds will open. Watch for future updates.
