Hunting access update: St. Joe National Forest road closures

Hunters should beware as they head into the woods for hunting season that there are road closures on the St. Joe National Forest. 

South of Avery, the Fishhook - Gold Center Road (No. 301) is closed until mid to late October for public safety as rock fall hazards in the historic Fishhook Tunnel are repaired. The closure includes Fishhook Road 301 from the intersection of the Old River Road at the St. Joe River to the intersection of the 753 Road at Lick Creek Road.

This map shows alternate routes, which include: 

  • Alt 1: Lick Creek Road 753 to Hoyt Mtn Rd 325 to Boulder Ck Rd 396 to Clarkia Marble Rd 321. 
  • Alt 2: Outlaw Ck Rd 1928 to Upper Lick Creek Rd 1926 to Lick Ck Rd 753 to Hoyt Mtn Rd 325 Road to Boulder Ck Rd 396 Rd to Clarkia Marble Rd 321. 
  • Alt 3: Avery Timber Ck Rd 201 to Kelly Ck Rd 1237. 
  • Alt 4: Kelley Ck Rd 1237 from Avery to access the Avery Timber Ck Rd 201. The lower 3 miles of Kelly Ck Rd 1237 will be closed to the public Monday to Friday from 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for increased logging traffic. Kelly Cr Rd 1237 will also be closed during the first week of October between miles 6-10.

In the Homestead area, two new bridges have been built on Forest Service Road 216 between Marble Creek and Breezy Saddle. Road 216 will remain closed as road improvements continue through mid-October.
