Commission postpones the sale of nonresident Sawtooth elk tags

idfg-vosborn

Nonresident elk hunters wanting a coveted Sawtooth Zone elk tag will have to wait until 2018 for an opportunity to get this tag.

Nonresident deer and elk tags typically go on sale Dec. 1 for the upcoming year, however, the commission has not decided how to allocate those limited Sawtooth Zone tags, which sold out in minutes earlier this year for both residents and nonresidents.

For now, the Idaho Fish and Game Commission has postponed the sale of nonresident Sawtooth Zone elk tags and will revisit the issue of how and when to distribute the tags in 2018.

Commissioners have the option of continuing to sell them on a first-come, first-served basis, or convert the Sawtooth Zone to a controlled hunt.

Most nonresident elk and deer tags will be available for purchase on Dec. 1, 2017.
