**Attention Youth Hunters**
If you or a youngster you know are interested in waterfowl hunting, come join IDFG at the Clark Fork Delta on September 30th for a day of learning methods and techniques while in the duck blind. All participants will be paired up with experienced waterfowl hunters ready to mentor and share their wealth of hunting knowledge. The kids will be out at first light for a chance at some quackers and honkers, spend a couple hours in the blind, and will come back for a lunch and demonstrations on calling, dog retrieving, and duck identification.
Participation in the mentored hunts requires advance reservations and space is limited. Anyone interested should call to reserve a spot and to obtain additional details. Please contact the IDFG Panhandle Regional office to register @ (208) 769-1414. For additional information, please contact JJ Teare at 769-1414.
Young hunters will need to be accompanied by a non-hunting adult. Shotguns can be provided, if the kids do not have one, however participants will need to provide own ammunition. All other necessary gear like waders, decoys, and buckets will be provided as well.
Young hunters need to have completed hunters education and also need to secure a youth or small game license ($7.25) with a migratory bird validation ($1.75) prior to registration and must have the license on them while on the hunt. Federal duck stamps are not required for hunters until the age of 16.
To sharpen up those shotgun skills prior to the clinics, IDFG is offering participants a chance to get some professional shooting instructions and shoot 20 clays provided by IDFG. All it takes is to let us know you are interested when you sign up and show up the Farragut Shooting Range on Saturday 9/23 with a legal guardian. Time slots will be allotted from 10am to 3pm, if interest is high. There is additional shotgun shooting stations (with throwers) available so participants and parents are encouraged to bring extra shells and clays to continue to practice on and get ready for the following weekend.
This is a free clinic and every year both kids and adults learn a lot about waterfowl hunting and have a blast! Come join the fun!
