Idaho Fish and Game is hosting the 3rd annual two-day event entitled “Fish & Hunt Idaho Expo: Connecting Mountains to Meals: Preparing you for your next outdoor adventure! This event will be held Friday, August 25th from 2pm-7pm at the Lewis-Clark Wildlife Club Shooting Range at 27007 Tom Beale Road near Lapwai and Saturday, August 26th from 8am-4pm at the Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) regional office at 3316 16th street in Lewiston.

See many of the skills people learned at the first Hunt & Fish Idaho EXPO in 2015.

Anyone interested in hunting and fishing- those that have never picked up a gun/rod before, those whom have hunted/fished for many years but would like to try a different aspect of the sport, or even those that have been away from hunting/angling for years are invited to attend. Idaho Fish and Game and Lewis-Clark range staff will be available on Friday starting at 2pm to mentor participants as they shoot shotgun or try various rifle calibers. A barbeque dinner will be served starting at 4pm.

Saturday, August 26th will include outdoor events at the regional IDFG office. “Participants of the event will become connected to the tradition of hunting/fishing through a series of educational, hands-on workshops,” says Jerome Hansen, Clearwater regional supervisor. “It can be a lot to take in for a first-time sportsman as they learn where to hunt, what to pack, choose the right weapon, and techniques and regulations for the fish and wildlife they wish to pursue,” says Hansen. “Our goal is to help make the learning process easier by providing information within a series of workshops offered throughout the day. Come for part or all of the day to learn more!”

Emphasis will be given to hunting/fishing techniques and equipment, how to safely use, care for and select a firearm/rod & reel for purchase, as well as how to properly clean, fillet, field dress, process and cook your meat. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to taste wild fish and game meat cooked in a variety of ways. Lunch will be served by the boy scouts and 4H shooting sports from 11am-2pm.

Specialized workshops will also be offered such as; fish cleaning/cooking, elk calling, traditional vs. modern archery, fly rod casting, upland game bird hunting, duck hunting, women in hunting, and much more! Families are encouraged to attend. Activities will be offered for kids such as; BB gun shooting range, bow building and laser shooting.

Participants do not need to pre-register. For more information call or stop by the IDFG regional office at (208) 799-5010 for an additional chance to win a rifle donated by Sportsman’s Warehouse.
