Idaho's Free Fishing Day is an annual event held the second Saturday every June. For 2017, Free Fishing Day is this Saturday, June 10. All anglers, residents and nonresidents, can celebrate the day by fishing Idaho's waters without a license.
If you've never been fishing, Free Fishing Day is also a great day to learn. Fish and Game personnel, along with cooperating agencies and local volunteers set up several free events at local fishing waters throughout the state to help first-timers discover the joys of fishing.
In the Salmon Region, IDFG is hosting events at the following locations and times:
- Kids Creek Pond in Salmon, from 8:00 a.m. to noon,
- Blue Mountain Pond in Challis, from 8:00 a.m. to noon,
- Sawtooth Kids Pond, at Sawtooth Hatchery near Stanley, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
If you have your own equipment you are welcome to bring it, but loaner rods and tackle, as well as bait are available.
For more information on these events, the location of these ponds, and other events across the state, please take a look at the 2017 Free Fishing Day web app or call the Salmon Region IDFG office at (208) 756-2271.
