Chinook Salmon Fishery Update (6/20/2023): Clearwater River Return, Rapid River Run, Hells Canyon, and Lochsa River Fisheries

Hi everybody.

It is time for my weekly Chinook Salmon update (6/20/2023). All river section in the Clearwater basin and Snake River will remain open for at least another week. The fishery in the lower Salmon and Little Salmon rivers are now closed. For more details, read on.

F&G Commission approves summer Chinook seasons to start June 22

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission met via conference call and approved summer Chinook salmon seasons for the South Fork Salmon, Upper Salmon and Lochsa rivers. The seasons will open Thursday, June 22 and remain open seven days a week until harvest goals are achieved.

Juvenile mountain lion euthanized after killing domestic goat near Bellevue

Fish and Game officers from the Magic Valley Region were contacted on June 12 after a domestic goat was found killed and cached by a mountain lion near a residence south of Bellevue. The owners of the residence raise livestock on their property, and the goat was found cached in one of their outbuildings.

Osprey caught in bailing twine rescued by Lewiston Fire Department

Several calls came into Idaho Fish and Game office regarding an osprey that had its leg entangled in bailing twine and was hanging from its nest along Snake River Avenue in Lewiston on Monday, June 12.

Grizzly bear mistakenly shot and killed by a hunter in North Idaho

On the morning of June 8, a nonresident hunter shot and killed a male grizzly bear he mistook for a black bear. The bear was killed in Idaho’s Panhandle, north of Upper Priest Lake.
