Fish and Game wants waterfowl hunter opinions on future seasons

idfg-mdemick
To help guide the waterfowl season-setting process for the next five years (2016-2020), the Idaho Department of Fish and Game wants to hear from hunters on whether they prefer a 'continuous' or 'split' season, and if they prefer an earlier or later season. Idaho's waterfowl season must fit within guidelines set annually by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Since 1997, the USFWS has allowed a liberal 107 day season, and the IDFG Commission has adopted a 105-day season with a 2-day youth hunt. Those 107 days can occur between the Saturday nearest September 24 and the last Sunday in January. A continuous season is defined as 105 days of hunting without a break in the season. A split season is open for a period of time, closes for a period of time, and then re-opens, but still has 105 total days of hunting. Fish and Game also wants to hear from hunters on their preferred season opening and closing dates within the federal framework. To complete the survey, go to the Public Involvement page on Fish and Game's website at https://fishandgame.idaho.gov/content/public-involvement. The deadline for completing the survey goes through March 18. Results of this survey will help Idaho waterfowl managers develop season proposals, which hunters can then review and comment by visiting Fish and Game's website or by attending upcoming public meetings to be held at Fish and Game regional offices later this month or early April.
