Poached Elk's Antlers Found; Poacher Remains Unidentified

idfg-lfrench
The antlers from a bull elk believed to be poached just east of State Highway 21 along the Spring Shores Road north of Boise have been found. A February 23 Fish and Game news release about the poaching incident prompted an antler shed hunter to come forward with the antlers he salvaged from the dead bull. The shed hunter is not considered a suspect in the poaching case. Based on the hunter's information, investigating conservation officer Ben Cadwallader was able to determine that the bull was poached sometime between February 10th and 13th. Cadwallader green scored the antlers at somewhere between 310 and 330 points, making the animal a trophy by Idaho law. The case remains active and Citizens Against Poaching (CAP) is offering a reward for information in the case and callers can remain anonymous. Contact CAP at 1-800-632-5999 twenty four hours a day. In addition to the CAP hotline, persons with information regarding this case may also contact the Fish and Game Nampa office at 208-465-8465 weekdays and Idaho State Police at 208-846-7550 on weekends.
