Fish and Game is asking the public for information regarding the recent shooting of two mature bald eagles along the shore of Brownlee Reservoir near Steck Park. The birds were discovered Sunday, February 28th, although exact time of death could not be determined. Fish and Game veterinarian Mark Drew confirmed that both had been shot with a high-powered rifle. Citizens Against Poaching (CAP) is offering a reward for information in the case and callers can remain anonymous. Contact CAP at 1-800-632-5999 twenty four hours a day. Bald eagles are the only eagle species unique to North America and are the national bird of the United States. They are also fully protected both federally and at the state level as are all birds of prey or raptors found in Idaho. Fish and Game conservation officer Mark Sands is investigating, and would like to speak with anyone who might have information regarding the case. "I'm hopeful someone will contact me directly with details about these eagle shootings," Sands said. He can be reached direct at 208-989-9322. In addition to the CAP hotline, persons with information regarding this case may also contact the Fish and Game Nampa office at 208-465-8465 weekdays, Idaho State Police at 208-846-7550 on weekends or the Washington County Sheriff's Office anytime at 208-414-2121.
