Fish and Game releases young grizzlies trapped in October

idfg-lfrench
The two male yearling grizzly bear cubs were released in a remote portion of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest near Yellowstone National Park on Oct. 9. The yearlings and their mother were trapped on Oct. 8, near Chester, Idaho. Because of the sow's prior conflicts and poor body condition, Fish and Game personnel euthanized her after consultation with the United States Fish & Wildlife Service officials. The cubs were outfitted with radio collars so that their movements can be monitored. Before releasing the cubs their body condition was reviewed by Fish and Game biologists and a member of the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team. It was determined the yearlings were in better physical condition than their mother and have a chance at surviving the winter.
