Fire at Sand Creek Wildlife Management Area Covers 300 Acres

On October 15, at approximately 1:30 PM a controlled burned aimed at removing dead vegetation from Pond 2 at the Sand Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) jumped fire lines and began to burn uncontrolled. The actual fire management had been contracted to the St. Anthony Work Camp Fire Crew by the Idaho Department of Fish & Game (IDFG). The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), along with engines from both North and South Fremont County initially responded to the burn that had grown to 125 acres by 5:00 PM. BLM response to the fire involved a Type 2 Heavy Hand Crew, seven engines, two bulldozers, and two aircraft. As of 9:00 AM on October 16, the fire had covered 300 acres and was 60% contained. The fire is entirely on State of Idaho Land. If conditions remain constant, full containment is expected by 6:00 PM today.
