Ask Fish And Game - Anderson Ranch Chinook

idfg-mdemick
Q: While fishing for Kokanee in Anderson Ranch Reservoir last weekend, we caught and released a Chinook salmon. Could we have kept it? A: The short answer is yes. You can harvest Chinook in Anderson Ranch Reservoir. Fish and Game stocked Fall Chinook into Anderson Ranch Reservoir in 2013. The goal was to reinstitute a unique angling opportunity in the reservoir and to take advantage of the overabundant and stunted kokanee population. Because they were stocked after the current 2013-2015 Fishing Season and Rules brochure was printed, this information is not included. "Land-locked" Chinook salmon fall under the legal definition of a "trout." As such, anglers can harvest them as they would Rainbow Trout in Anderson Ranch Reservoir - you can keep 6 fish, no size limit. This information will be clarified in the Magic Valley section of the 2016 - 2018 Fishing Seasons and Rules brochure.
