Ask Fish & Game: Steelhead Harvest Surveys

idfg-sliebenthal
Q: Why am I seeing harvest results for steelhead throughout the Clearwater drainage on your website, but not seeing much about the Salmon River? A: Because the Clearwater is fished by a large number of anglers throughout the winter, there is enough effort to justify the expense of creel surveys. The Salmon River receives substantially less effort until early to mid-February. Now that more anglers are headed to the Salmon River, we will begin surveys there as well. You will find updated information for the Salmon River on our website beginning Tuesday, February 17. We can tell you from anecdotal information we have received from anglers, plenty of fish are being caught along most of the Salmon River. With cooler weather in the forecast, river conditions could become perfect for the Presidents Day weekend.
