Horsethief Youth Ice Fishing Day this Saturday

The ice on Horsethief Reservoir is thick and strong, and that is good news for families planning to attend the youth ice fishing day there. The event will take place Saturday January 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The ice was not stable enough two weeks ago when the event was originally scheduled, but volunteers have been watching it closely, and say conditions look good for this weekend. Because of the cold weather those planning to attend are encouraged to bring plenty of extra clothing and chairs to sit on. Free hotdogs and hot chocolate will be served while supplies last, and organizers suggest bringing something extra to munch on, as well as plenty of water. Because this is an educational event, attendees (including adults) are not required to have a fishing license. Fish and Game will have a limited number of loaner rods on site, but those planning on participating are urged to bring whatever gear they have so the loaners can be used by those who have no gear of their own.
