Fish and Game took an in-depth look at the namesake river of Idaho’s capitol city, and found some interesting things, and you can see them in a new video available at https://idfg.idaho.gov/video/

The lower Boise River (from Lucky Peak Reservoir downstream) has abundant populations of rainbow and brown trout, both of which reproduce in the river. Fish and Game also augments them with hatchery trout.

Despite its popularity as an urban fishery and heavy fishing pressure, harvest is light. However, surveys showed there’s room for improvement. Fish and Game biologists found very few hatchery brown trout are surviving in the river, so there’s still work to be done to fully understand how the river functions as a trout stream.
