Youth Waterfowl Hunting Clinic Scheduled

idfg-staff
Coeur d'Alene: The Idaho Fish and Game Commission has set a special two-day youth (only) waterfowl hunting weekend. Only hunters aged 15 and younger may participate. The dates are September 30-October 1. The youth hunt precedes the general waterfowl season which opens October 7 in most of the state. During this special season, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) has scheduled a special youth waterfowl hunting clinic. The clinic/hunt will be held Saturday, September 30, 2006 at the Boundary Creek Wildlife Management Area. IDFG is looking for young hunters interested in learning the art of waterfowl hunting. Participants and a guardian will have the opportunity to spend the morning hunting under the instruction of an experienced waterfowl hunter. Participants won't just watch, they will take part in the action. Following a morning hunt, participants will be treated to a free barbeque and a waterfowl skills clinic. The intent is to expose young hunters to a quality hunting experience and to provide their parent or guardian with enough training to repeat that experience independently. The event will be held during the youth waterfowl weekend, so only those 15 and under will be able to hunt. Young hunters will need to be accompanied by an adult and bring a shotgun and waterfowl ammunition (no lead). Young hunters will also need to secure a youth or small game hunting license and a federal migratory game bird validation ($8.00 total) prior to the event. Duck stamps are never required for hunters under the age of 16. Participation will be by advanced reservation and space is limited. To reserve your spot and obtain additional details, call Bryan Helmich at the IDFG Coeur d'Alene Regional Office (208-769-1414).
