Youth pheasant hunt Oct. 4, 5

JEROME - Youth wanting to get an early shot at a pheasant can this weekend with the opening of the youth pheasant hunt Oct. 4 and 5. The rules for the youth hunt are simple. On Oct. 4 with hunting starting at noon. Hunters must have a valid hunting license and be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older. The bag limit is three cocks a day. "The goal of the program is to give youth an opportunity to hunt without having to compete with the adults," said Kelton Hatch, Fish and Game Regional Conservation Educator. "It's a great opportunity to get them out without the pressures of the general season." To help increase the young hunters odds, pen raised pheasant with be released at a few of the Fish and Game Wildlife Management Areas in the southern part of the state. In the Magic Valley, 50 pheasants with be released at the Niagara Springs WMA. Hunters opting to hunt on private land are reminded to Ask First before hunting.
