Unclaimed controlled hunt permits are listed on the Idaho Fish and Game web site in anticipation of the sale of these permits, beginning August 30. The permits were not claimed by August 20 following the drawing for deer, elk and antelope hunts. Beginning this year, controlled hunt permits that go unclaimed-meaning tags were not sold to go along with the permit-will be sold after an August 20 deadline. About 1,600 permits remain unclaimed and are listed at http://www2.state.id.us/fishgame/hunt/ch/unclaimed.htm. Setting a cutoff date for claiming permits appears to have worked; several thousand have remained unclaimed in recent years. Controlled hunts are set to achieve specific management goals, aims that are undermined when significant numbers of tags go unsold. Hunters can buy the unclaimed tags on August 30 at license vendors and the Fish and Game offices in Boise, Lewiston and Jerome beginning at 10 a.m. Mountain Time, 9 a.m. Pacific and offices will be open until all tags are sold . Unclaimed tags will not be sold over the telephone or on the Internet. "There are some folks who forgot to pick up their controlled hunt tag and now, August 30 is your opportunity to have another chance at that hunt you missed out on or forgot to apply for back in May," Steve Barton, Chief Financial Officer, Idaho Fish & Game said. "So, August 30 is your day to go in and pick up some leftover controlled hunt tags that somebody forgot." In addition, beginning August 28th, leftover non-resident tags are available for purchase by resident hunters. "There is another great opportunity for folks that not only like to hunt, say in the Salmon area, but want to hunt by McCall. There are leftover non-resident deer and elk tags that are available as a second tag. They are at the nonresident price, but they're available now. So go in to any of your favorite license vendors and pick up a leftover nonresident deer or elk tag as a second tag." The nonresident tags are also available for purchase on the internet at: http://www2.state.id.us/fishgame or by telephone 1-800-554-8685.
