Two Hunter Education Courses Offered For Moscow-Area Youth

MOSCOW - Young hunters interested in pursuing game this year are encouraged to register early for one of two hunter education courses scheduled during April and May in Moscow. Both courses will be held on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Latah County Fairground Exhibit building in Moscow. The April course will run from April 21 to 30th with the field and range qualifications scheduled for May 1st. The May course will run from May 17 to 28th with the field and range qualifications scheduled for May 29th. Pre-registration is required. Only a limited number of students will be accepted into the upcoming classes, and once the maximum number is reached, registration will be closed. "Hunters should register early in the week because the classes will fill fast, " said Kent Henderson, IDFG hunter education coordinator. "During the last registration, three classes were filled the first couple of hours, so it's very important to sign up early." Pre-registration requires a current address, phone number, date of birth and social security number for each student. Cost is $8 for the student's workbook and ammunition. Parents or legal guardians are encouraged to accompany their youth and participate in the entire program. More than 60 percent of these courses are taught between January and April. All courses are taught by trained volunteer instructors that often teach only winter and spring classes. The longer students wait, the less likely there will be a course offered in their area. Idaho law requires that anyone born after January 1, 1975 must complete an IDFG hunter education course as a prerequisite to purchasing a hunting license. Students must be 10 years old prior to the next October general hunting season.
