Idaho Fish and Game

Steelhead Coming to Boise River

idfg-staff
Steelhead fishing is about to begin in the Boise River, according to Idaho anadromous fisheries program coordinator Bill Horton. Fish and Game will move at least 300 steelhead from its Hells Canyon trap below Oxbow Dam tomorrow, April 5. The fish release is set for around noon. Steelhead will be released at several locations in Boise, from Glenwood Bridge to Barber Park. Steelhead permits are required. Limits will be three per day and nine in possession. The season limit is 40 if a second steelhead permit is purchased. Harvest must be recorded on the permit. Horton reported that there may still be some steelhead in the river from releases last fall. This may be the only release for the spring season, he said.
