South Fork Salmon River Chinook Season Closes

idfg-staff
What has been a fantastic chinook salmon fishing season on the South Fork of the Salmon River ends today. Effective July 2, 2001 at 9:00 pm MST, the South Fork will be closed to chinook salmon fishing. "Our hatchery chinook harvest quota has been reached," Fish and Game anadromous fish manager Sharon Kiefer noted. "We hope everyone who participated enjoyed the season and the unique opportunity to fish for Idaho salmon on the South Fork." The closure caps a 23-day season full of chinook fishing memories for many Idahoans. Anglers harvested more than 6,000 hatchery chinook salmon during the three-week season on the South Fork of the Salmon River. Even with the closure, anglers still have plenty of opportunity to harvest a chinook. Salmon seasons remain open on the Boise and Payette Rivers, Panther Creek (near Salmon, Idaho), the Little Salmon River (Riggins) and the Clearwater drainage.
