September Season Openers

Idaho hunting and fishing seasons open in September. A valid hunting license is required for hunting all upland game. Mourning dove season opens September 1, with a daily bag limit of 10 and shooting hours of one-half hour before sunrise to sunset. A migratory bird harvest information program validation is required. Forest grouse season opens Sept. 1, with a daily bag limit of four in the aggregate of blue, ruffed, and spruce grouse. Shooting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset. No special permits are required. The season on cottontail rabbits and snowshoe hares opens September 1. Limits are eight of each species daily. Shooting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset. No special permits are required. Fall steelhead season opens September 1, with a daily limit of two hatchery fish. Non-hatchery fish must be returned to the water immediately, unharmed. A valid fishing license and steelhead fishing permit are required. September 15 is the opener for fall wild turkey general hunts in some areas_ check the rule book to be sure. A turkey tag is required. Chukar and gray partridge, California quail and sage grouse all open Sept. 20. A sage/sharptail grouse validation on the hunting license is required when hunting them.
