Second chance for deer, elk, bear and antelope tags

idfg-staff
JEROME - Deer, elk, bear and antelope controlled hunt results are out, but hunters not drawing a controlled hunt tag this fall have several more chances at a controlled hunt. Any person successful in drawing a controlled hunt permit for deer, elk, fall bear or antelope must purchase their tag and permit before August 1 at a license vendor or Fish and Game office. All unclaimed permits, and leftover tags, (does not include unlimited hunts) will be available for a second drawing with an application period of August 5-15. The drawing will be August 20 and any leftover will go on sale August 25. Applicants for leftovers who already have a general-season tag in possession must return it to a Fish and Game office to be exchanged for the appropriate controlled hunt tag. Key dates to remember: - July 10 - Winners of first deer, elk, fall bear, and antelope drawing notified by this date. - July 10 - Winners of second trophy species application notified by this date. - July 31 - End of second Super Slam application period. Sportsmen wanting to increase their chances of getting the controlled hunt of their dreams can also purchase tickets to win supertags or the super slam pak. This is the first year for the "supertag" drawing. Six deer, six elk, six antelope and two moose tags still remain for the 2004 hunting season. The first supertag drawing netted more than $100,000 for the Access Yes! program which purchases access to private lands throughout the state. Hunters can apply at any license vendor, by phone at 1-(800) 554-8685 or 1-(800) 824-3729, mail (see below) or online, from June 1 to July 30 (drawing August 16). Phone and Internet applications have a processing fee added by the contractor providing the service, which is equal to three percent of the purchase plus $3.50. Superslam Tag and Supertag applications received for the second drawing must be received at the IDFG headquarters office no later than July 31, 2004. Mail applications to: IDFG License Section, P.O.
