Sage-grouse Local Working Group Plans Public Meeting

idfg-nnokkentved
The South Magic Valley Sage-grouse Local Working Group plans a public information meeting Thursday, July 31, in Burley to present an overview of the current sage-grouse situation in the South Magic Valley planning area. The presentation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Burley Best Western Inn at 800 North Overland Avenue. The meeting is open to the public, area landowners, interested organizations, agencies and anyone else interested in learning more about the sage-grouse situation. Dave Musil, a research biologist from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game will deliver an informational presentation that will cover geography, sage-grouse species and physiology, behavior, habitat selection, threats, Magic Valley population status and the legal status of the Endangered Species Act listing process. Musil and group members also will answer questions from the audience. The status of the sage-grouse is currently being evaluated by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service for listing under the Act. If listed, the associated regulations could affect the management of the sage-grouse, and may change the way in which sage-grouse habitat is managed, potentially affecting the use of public and private lands. The Working Group has recently formed for the purpose of "Émaintaining and increasing the greater sage-grouse populations in the South Magic Valley sage-grouse planning area." The group is interested in broadening its participation and membership to include stakeholders and key area residents who are interested in working positively together in this effort. For more information on the public meeting or the South Magic Valley Sage-grouse Local Working Group, please contact group coordinator Justin Barrett at the Idaho Department of Fish and Game at 324-4359.
