River clean up

Jerome - A semi load of trash, dozens of car tires, shopping carts, lawn mowers and auto parts were packed off last weekend when nearly 100 people worked on cleaning up parts of the Snake River Canyon between Shoshone Falls and Centennial Park. This is the sixth year of the clean up and in that time organizers and volunteers over the years have hauled out over nine semi loads of junk, nearly 800 car tires, dozens of shopping carts, washing machines, cars, and countless numbers of other objects. "It's a real mess," said Dr. Jim Irwin, clean-up organizer. "I think the canyon is a premier feature of the valley and I want to see it stay that way for the future. "It is a beautiful place," he said, "and a great place that is close to town were people can get out and enjoy the outdoors." People helping Dr. Irwin with the clean up, include: Andy Lott and Boy Scout Troop 94, along with the young men and young women organizations; Chris Milsell and Troup 93; James King, working on his Eagle Project, who organized and oversaw the cleanup between Pillar Falls and Centennial Park; Craig Adams and the young men and young women groups; Janet Ronald and family with Girl Scout Troup 640 and Boy Scout Troop 65; Idaho Guide Service; James Irwin and family; Dennis Bramon; Paul Schianke; Kurt Benson; Laramie Simpson; Idaho Power and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.
