Idaho Fish and Game

Register February 14 for Lewiston-area Hunter Ed

idfg-nnokkentved
Though the Idaho spring turkey hunting season is a few months away, now is the time for future hunters to register for a hunter education course. On Wednesday, February 14, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game will begin student registration for courses being offered March through April in the Lewiston area. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the Fish and Game office at 3316 16th St., Lewiston. An $8 fee is required as well as the student's, phone, date of birth and mailing address. A social security number also is required to obtain a hunting or fishing license. Registration will also be accepted by phone beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday by calling 208-799-5010. Prospective students are encouraged to view a list of upcoming classes on Fish and Game's website at http://fishandgame.idaho.gov, to determine the class that best fits their schedules before registering. Idaho also offers two independent study course options -- a workbook course for hunter education and an Internet course for both hunter and bowhunter education. These options are designed for self-motivated students with good reading and comprehension skills who have some firearms and hunting knowledge or experience. These independent study courses are not recommended for students under the age of 14, and Fish and Game suggests that younger students participate in a traditional classroom course. Fish and Game schedules an average of one class each month in Lewiston and sufficient courses throughout the region to meet the needs of young hunters. Registration for courses in Lewiston from May through July will be in mid-April.
