The Idaho Fish and Wildlife Foundation (IFWF) has teamed with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) to host the annual radio auction on Clear Channel's AM stations across the southern tier of Idaho. The program will be broadcast throughout this portion of our state on KID-AM 590, Pocatello KWIK AM 1240, Twin Falls KLIX 1310 and KIDO-63 AM in Boise. As many as 26 trips will be available this year. Ten to 12 trips will be auctioned off each hour of the two-hour Radio Auction. Proceeds will be used on various fish and wildlife projects throughout southern and eastern Idaho to improve habitat, education facilities and wildlife monitoring. During the broadcast the announcers will discuss each trip. For example, spend a day capturing and tagging sturgeon with IDFG Fisheries Biologist Larry Barrett in the lower part of Hells Canyon. The winning bidder will leave from Lewiston and jet boat upstream through white water rapids and spectacular scenery. Sturgeon will be caught and tagged for research purposes, with data collected on distribution, age, and growth of individual fish. All necessary gear is provided, but you may want to bring a light spinning rod and bass lures. This one-day trip is for two people and needs to be taken May through November 2002. See Hells Canyon from the Snake River's point of view! Or join Panhandle wildlife managers on a four-day backpacking trip into Snow Peak Wildlife Management Area to evaluate elk winter range conditions. Snow Peak Wildlife Management Area is a remote and beautiful place which includes 32,000 acres of roadless country. This trip has it allÑbackpacking, wildlife viewing, and incredible fishing. Bidders on this trip need to be fit individuals, as the journey will be physically demanding. Food and gear will be provided but the winning bidder will have to pack it. No sherpas are available. Expect the trip of a lifetime! The trip will be scheduled for mid July or early August, and the successful bidder can pick dates within this time frame, weather permitting. Bid on these trips and many more by calling 1-800-574-6363 on Tuesday, March 5th from 7 to 9 PM.
