Idaho Fish and Game

Not Lured To Salmon Angling - Give Trout A Try

idfg-staff
LEWISTON - If you are an angler, but you're not caught up in the current salmon fishing frenzy, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game reminds you that area lakes and reservoirs can provide plenty of great fishing action. "Grab your fishing pole and go catch some trout close to home, " says Robert Hand, fisheries biologist with IDFG, "We have stocked or plan to stock most area waters by the end of next week." Mann Lake was stocked with 7,500 rainbow trout in early April, but will receive another 7,500 next week. Dworshak Reservoir received 24,000 trout in April at the Dent boat ramp. These fish were stocked at the Dent ramp due to the reservoir water release schedule and the potential for fish to be flushed through the dam. An additional 24,000 rainbows will be stocked there this week. Other waters already stocked with rainbow trout include: Campbell's Pond, 2000; Robinson's Pond, 1000; Burling Pond, 4000; and Hordeman Pond, 250. IDFG plans to stock the following by the end of next week: Moose Creek Reservoir, 5,000; Waha Lake, 5,000; Soldier's Meadow Reservoir, 5,000; Mann Lake, 7,500; Winchester Lake, 10,000; Spring Valley Reservoir, 10,000; and Elk Cr. Reservoir, 10,000. All area lowland lakes and reservoirs in the Clearwater Region are open to fishing year-around, and anglers can keep 6 rainbow trout per day. Anglers are encouraged to pick up a copy of the fishing regulations before they head outdoors, and specific information on area waters can be obtained by contacting Fish and Game's Lewiston office at 799-5010.
