Nez Perce County Early Goose Hunt to Begin September 8

idfg-staff
Waterfowl hunters will get an early shot at the local goose population during the Nez Perce County early goose hunt scheduled for September 8 through September 14, 2001 Hunters can harvest four birds daily with a possession limit of eight birds. Hunters must hold a valid 2001 hunting license, a federal migratory game bird harvest program validation and a federal migratory bird stamp. This annual hunt is one of many management tools used to control the expanding goose population. Because the majority of Nez Perce County is private land, IDFG encourages hunters to contact private landowners to gain access to hunting areas. The following hunting area closures within Nez Perce County will remain in effect during the seven day general hunt:
  • Mann Lake Closure in Lewiston Orchards.
  • Lewiston Preserve along the Clearwater River from Lewiston city limits to Spalding between Highway 12-95 on the north side of the river and the Camas Prairie Railroad on the south side.
  • Lewiston city limits on the Clearwater River and the Snake River.
  • Hellsgate State Park along the Snake River from the north end of the park upstream to the basalt bluffs opposite Asotin.
