Mountain Lion Season Closes in Units 56 & 57

idfg-staff
The mountain lion harvest season in game management units 56 (Sublette) and 57 (Black Pine) is closed effective January 2, 2002. A third female lion was taken in the Burnt Creek drainage of unit 57 on December 29, 2001. Units 56 and 57 have a combined female lion quota of three animals. A dog-training season for lions (pursuit only) is now open in these units and runs through March 31, 2002. To find out if the quota on lions has been met in other units, call 1-800-323-4334. The river otter harvest season in the Magic Valley Region officially closed on Sunday, December 2, after the regional quota was met. The toll free number noted above might also be called for regions that still have an open otter season. All otters caught in this region through the remainder of the regular trapping season must now be reported to the Department of Fish and Game as an incidental catch; a payment of $5.00 will be paid to trappers who turn in these otters. The bobcat season opened for the entire state on January 1, 2002; it runs through February 28, 2002. Bobcat may be taken either by trapping or hunting, with the appropriate license. Any person taking bobcat must comply with the mandatory check and report and pelt tag requirements. Pelts must be presented to the regional office in Jerome, 868 E. Main, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., to obtain the required tags and complete a harvest report.
