Motorized Decoys Legal in Idaho

idfg-staff
Motorized waterfowl decoys will continue to be allowed in Idaho. The Fish and Game Commission meeting in Driggs August 8-10 voted five to two not to ban the use of motorized waterfowl decoys that have proven controversial in some other states. The Washington Commission recently did vote to disallow the use of this type of decoy. The question was placed before Idahoans before the meeting, garnering 171 responses with 66 percent in favor of no ban. The controversy stems mainly from the perception that motorized decoys are too effective in bring ducks into gun range. Traditionalist hunters have also objected that their use alters waterfowling to an unacceptable degree.
