Idaho Fish and Game

More Elk Tags Made Available

idfg-staff
Meeting in Pocatello October 3-4, the Idaho Fish and Game Commission voted to eliminate the quota on nonresident elk tags in the Panhandle Region, making some 380 general hunt nonresident tags immediately available for this season. The decision allows residents or nonresidents to buy the tags at the nonresident price of $338.50. All other nonresident tags available in Idaho had been sold out before this action. The special Panhandle quota was in place for years before the elk hunting zone plan was instituted in 1998. This action does not raise the general statewide quota of tags sold to nonresidents. Elk hunting zones that are capped to manage herds more closely are not included. The newly available tags are valid only outside the Lolo, Selway, Dworshak, Elk City and Middle Fork zones. Commissioners took the action because the Panhandle quota had not been met in many years.
